How to Define Business Objectives
Why does a good business relationship rely on having some common business objectives?
As you attend networking events, you will gradually find ways that make it easy for you to mingle and be heard. Your message will need to be clear, focused and consistent each time. You will find that many of the people you met at one event will attend others you go to. These are the people that you will likely form a kind of bond with. It is these people you can work with to brainstorm on the best networking events to attend and those that have not panned out. This is also a way to start new business relationships. If you had not found anything in common with them before, you now have something to discuss. You can ask questions as to the type of business they are looking for and who their best customer is. You can also find out more about their business objectives and how they may mesh with what you are doing at the present time. The ultimate goal here is to get to the first appointment to explore possibilities. They may want to do business with you as much as you want to do business with them
Once you focus on commonalities between each company and commonalities between individuals, the business relationship has an opportunity to form. You are not selling at this point; you are simply trying to establish a good business relationship. Each of you may try a little of what the other has to offer in order to test the waters before the relationship can be solidified.
The word business "pain" is flaunted regularly in marketing and sales circles and sometimes has very little meaning. Most organizations will not reveal their pain to anyone except an insider. If you are able to form a solid business relationship within the company, then you will be closer to finding out what improvements the company is striving for.

The Misconceptions of the Value Of Disclosures in Franchising
Disclosure laws in franchising are suppose to help the consumer. They don't. The FTC, which over sees franchising has in fact created a rule, which makes 5 lb. Disclosure documents for franchise buyers, which is so huge that no one ever reads it. I know when I personally meet a franchise buyer whose application form is approved and hand them a UFOC, Uniform Franchise Offering Circular with attachments and watch their jaw drop and then their hand drop when they clutch it in their hands (due to the weight of the 155 to 200 pages), I see a blank look. I apologize every time for my unreasonable government and the US legal system for the rules.

The Care and Feeding of Your Small Business
While I was hard at work last week, an everyday drama was playing out in a hospital room in the next town. My niece was working on presenting me with a new great nephew. Tyler James came into the world Thursday afternoon, mother and child are both doing well. Naturally, I am able to discern at this early stage that the child is adorably cute, remarkably bright, and very advanced for his age. Takes after his Great Aunt, I'm sure.

Two Types Of Business Plan Cover Pages ? Which One Are You Using?
This is the tale of two business plans with very different cover pages. They both contain a unique and exciting business opportunity with the potential for high investment returns. Arriving in the morning mail, each neatly bound plan lands on the desk of the same potential business investor. Both plans are competing with hundreds of other documents, worksheets, phone calls, and articles for the investor's attention. And, they compete in time, because each one, seen for a few seconds, is either heeded or passed up and seldom returned to by the investor.

Bringing Home the Bacon
In general, all of us know how to accomplish the task and get the work done. The problem is in how to actually 'get paid' for what we do. If you, like me and most of the entrepreneurs I've worked with, have completed the project, turned it in and been left holding the proverbial bag waiting to be paid for months on end, you are probably just as tired of that scenario as the rest of us. So what can we, as entrepreneurs, do about that particular scenario?

Somewhere, buried deep in the rubble is Connie's business plan. The last time she saw it was during the Clinton Administration.

Accounting and Billing Procedures for Small Business
No matter how small your small business is, it is essential to have some sort of accounting and billing police and methodology. This will prevent you from making mistakes and upsetting vendors or even bouncing checks. Most sole proprietor and single employee companies do not have a plan of attack for accounting and billing procedures until there is a crisis. There is no sense in allowing a crisis to take hold, especially when a few procedures are set in place to prevent it. Remember Noah built the Ark before the rain.
