Simplicity with Your Home Wall Decor

I can still picture my roommate as she lay stretched out on the floor, rummaging through a pile of Martha Stewart magazines. It was our mutual friend?s birthday and we preferred to deliver our own personalized birthday gifts. My roommate sat on the floor, cutting out various chunks of pages from the magazines. After observing her assorted scraps, she mixed and matched the paper in what formed a fitting and creative design. She neatly wrapped the gift in her personalized wrapping paper.

Baby Quilts ? Traditional Or With A Twist

I am not a quilter in the typical sense, but I love making small coverlets and quilts for babies when I am not making wall hangings. All you need is some cute and colorful fabric. I use a method of fabric manipulation that is just a free form method of quilting on the sewing machine. Just take a plain piece of muslin and piece a collage of sorts on top of it from your cute fabric stash. You can also just take a plain piece of adorable fabric and lay it on top of the muslin without piecing if that is easier for you. Put it in the sewing machine and start stitching with some matching and contrasting thread and just free form the stitches. It?s up to you how you want it to look. Stitch it a little or a lot and don?t be afraid to change your stitches either. Even if you have a very basic sewing machine like I do, you can do a lot with just a zig zag stitch. I can imagine how you quilting pros would be able to make it look unique and different. When you have the stitches the way you want them; throw it in the washing machine. This will shrink and pucker because of all the stitching. Because of the shrinking, make sure you increase the size of piece to allow about two inches of shrinking per side. Put batting underneath and complete the quilt as usual. I have also done wall hangings for people completed in different methods or just left unfinished and raw looking as well. If you have a cute collage for babies or have done some photo transfer work, you can make something customized for the nursery. It would look great on the wall too.

Luxurious Linen ? Surround Yourself With Sensual Texture

Luxurious linen has been used for centuries. Writers speak in poetic terms of the lovely sensual textures and styles of sheets that were once decadent and even sinful because they were so lush and beautiful. Luxury linens were so revered that one of the most important heirlooms a mother could give a daughter on her wedding day was linen that had been passed from one to another. Quality linen was the tie that bound the generations together. Most bedding and sheets were actually made of linen and not the cotton or blends we use today. This could only have been achieved because linen is so durable and beautiful that time will enhance its beauty.

Latex Mattresses ? Comfortable, Renewable, and Biodegradable

A latex mattress is not exactly the same thing as a memory foam bed. Latex is a naturally biodegradable sap from the rubber trees of Indonesia and Malaysia. It is collected in a process not unlike getting maple syrup from a tree. This liquid latex is shipped in drums to different parts of Europe and the United States where it is then turned into mattresses, toppers, and pillows. Since it is 100% natural and renewable; it is hypoallergenic and breathable because of the open cell structure to keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Latex does not have the detrimental effects on the environment as other materials do because of the renewable properties. Bacteria or mold and mildew cannot live in latex mattresses, making them great for kid?s rooms. Studies prove that latex is three times more resistant to dust mites than traditional mattresses. Most memory foam beds have some form of self recovery foam. It may or may not be latex. Some people are severely allergic to latex. Be sure you ask exactly what your mattress is made of before you purchase.

Goose Down Comforters ? Warm, Cozy, and Lightweight

Who wouldn?t want a goose down comforter and a pretty duvet cover to keep warm at night? There is nothing that holds your body heat in and keeps the cold out like goose down. Goose down comforters are made with the down sewn in baffles between specially designed fabric. The feathers do a good job of keeping the goose warm and they do the same thing for us. You will usually find the comforters in white and you want to protect them, so add a pretty duvet cover and your bedroom is well on its way to being beautiful as well as cozy. When it comes to goose down comforters and duvet covers, price is an issue. You can find both at any price, but the lesser expensive ones are not as warm because the goose feathers will fall down to the edges creating thin layers on top for you to sleep under. This is not good for a cold winter night. If your comforter is constructed correctly, the goose feathers will stay within the baffles and you will continue to have a fluffy warm comforter. Watch for sales and end of the year clearance prices for a great savings on real goose down comforters.

An Introduction to Bamboo Flooring

A little known fact: bamboo is technically not a tree at all, but a grass that includes over 1,000 species. Even without planting, bamboo naturally grows back, and it reaches maturity in only four to five years. These qualities make bamboo an excellent, forest-friendly source of wood for flooring.

The basic bathroom vanity includes a mirror or medicine cabinet above, a sink or basin and counter or ?top? below, and a cabinet beneath. In some cases the sink and top are one unit. Homeowners today often use vanities to set the tone or motif in decorating a bathroom. Bathroom vanities are available in a variety of styles and sizes dependent upon taste, functionality and financial commitment.

Interior Decorating and Home Decor With Inuit Art from the Arctic North

In order to help give a room a classier touch, interior decorators have used sculptures to bring in a mansion or even museum-like feel to a home. This is particularly true for the interior decorating of living rooms, dens, home offices and hallways. When many people consider sculptures as home decor, the thought comes to ancient Roman or Greek mythological characters like Apollo, Venus or Zeus. Others think about abstract contemporary fine art sculptures that are sometimes difficult to interpret. Since there has been a trend in recent years towards a more natural look with more earthy color tones for interior decorating, Inuit art from the Canadian Arctic north can fit in nicely as part of home decor.
